II. International Symposium of Post-Soviet Turkey-Russia Relations

Dear Scholar,

The bipolar world order, which ended with the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was the beginning of a new geopolitical process. Turkey not only sought ways to strengthen its ties with the Turkish communities that gained their independence/autonomy after the collapse of the USSR but also established new relations with the Russian Federation. In recent days, the Covid-19 Pandemic process, which has deeply affected the whole world, has brought many social, political, and economic consequences beyond being a health problem. In parallel with these results, the significance of regional and global cooperation is increasing. Relations between Turkey and Russia, the two most important actors of the Eurasian geography, have the potential to change both regional and global balances these days when the global balance of power is being reshaped.

In this context, under the auspices of Ege University Rector Prof. (Ph.D.) Necdet Budak, the Institute of the Turkish World Studies of Ege University has decided to organize an international e-symposium (online) called “II. International Symposium of Post-Soviet Turkey-Russia Relations” between October 14-15, 2021 in order to discuss social, economic, and political relations that the Turkish Republic and the Russian Federation developed during the dissolution process of the USSR and to contribute to the determination of course of action in the coming periods. The main topics to be discussed in the symposium are as follows:

  • Conceptual Approaches to Two-Country Relations (Power, Identity, etc.)
  • Geopolitical Dimension (One Belt One Road Project, Channel Istanbul, etc.)
  • International Organizations, Energy and Security Factor
  • New Instruments in the 21st Century Digital World Order (Global Climate Change, Vaccine, Cryptocurrencies, etc.)
  • Regional Conflicts and International Intervention
  • Risks and Opportunities in the future of Eurasia
  • Socio-Cultural Dimension of Turkey-Russia Relations
  • The Impact of Turkey-Russia relations on the Turkish World
  • The Political Economy of Turkey-Russia Relations
  • The Role of Political Leaders in Diplomacy
  • Theo-Strategic Approaches

We will appreciate and be very honored by your attendance. If you want to participate in the symposium, you must send the "Title" and "Abstract" parts of the paper you will submit until September 15, 2021, via turkeyrussiacongress@gmail.com e-mail address.

Sincerely,
